TARCA toast success with the Rebellion Beer Company

Continuing a heritage for brewing beer in Marlow that stretches back over 250 years, the Rebellion Beer Company has, since 1993, developed a thriving business. The Brewery is located at Bencombe Farm, a beautiful rural location, nestling in the rolling South Buckinghamshire Chilterns Hills. This phenomenally successful brewery is now one of the largest Micro brewers in the United Kingdom, producing an average of 1.8m pints of beer a year. The brewery serves over 200 local public houses as well supporting a popular on-site retail outlet.

TARCA was invited to visit the brewery by co-owner, Tim Coombes. Tim had invested in a number of IT systems to support the brewery business, but as the business had grown, was starting to see that the performance of some of the underpinning applications was starting to place restrictions on his business.

TARCA explained their service-led philosophy and outlined the process they would embark upon, which would start with the deployment of the TARCA Discovery Service. Whilst the Discovery Service was gathering information in the background, the TARCA specialist would then interview key Rebellion staff members to ascertain the impact that these application ‘Challenges’ were having on their ability to work effectively. This detail, together with the output from the TARCA Discovery Service, would then be reviewed and an action plan developed. The action plan would then be shared with Tim, who would then see our findings and understand how the implementation of the TARCA plan would remedy his current situation.

Tim bought into the TARCA plan and the information gathering phase of the plan was implemented. As a result of this discovery phase it was recommended that we then deploy the TARCA Application Profiling Service and TARCA Dispute Resolution Service.

Through our investigations, it was discovered that one of the key business applications was not performing effectively; in fact the poor operation of this single application was having a detrimental knock-on effect on the rest of the IT environment. Having identified the root cause of the problem TARCA then contacted the applications developer to explain the situation, detail how his application was impacting the business and provide recommendations on how the application might be re-written. Within days, these changes were made by the applications developer, road-tested (to good effect) at the brewery and have now been incorporated and rolled out to all the other users of this particular application.

As a result of TARCA’s engagement with the Rebellion Beer Company, the business has continued thrive, with the IT systems and applications performing well. TARCA is now proud to continue an ongoing relationship with the Rebellion Beer Company, providing ongoing applications monitoring with the TARCA Monitoring Service.
